How do I book?

Please select “BOOKING” from the menu at the top of the page. There will be instructions and a booking form if bookings are being taken at the moment, as well as pricing and general info.

Can I book in person?

Unfortunately not. Black Waltz is a private studio, and visits are appointment only.

I’m booked in, what now?

Normally the details given in your request are enough to prepare the design, but on the evening before your appointment it’s helpful to keep an eye on your emails for any issues or questions that might arise during the design process.

We ask that you don’t bring anyone with you to your appointment, and please arrive at the studio at your appointment time. If you arrive too early, you may be asked to return at your appointment time.

Press the “BLKWALTZ” buzzer. One of our artists will answer - please inform them of your appointment and the door will unlock for you.

How can I prepare for my session?

For the week prior to your appointment, it’s a good idea to begin moisturising the area with your moisturiser of choice. During this time, please avoid any sunburn or tanning, and refrain from applying any numbing agents.

Sessions are usually completed with minimum breaks, so it’s recommended to eat a big breakfast before arrival, and also bring some sugary snacks and drinks to see you through.

Painkillers, or stimulants like coffee or energy drinks, are not recommended.

Where is the best place to park?

Mount Pleasant multi-storey car park is a few minutes walk from the studio, almost always has spaces available, and is open 24 hours.

Do you tattoo all skin tones?

Of course! Tattoos look good on all skin tones! It’s a myth that some skin tones don’t work with colour tattoos. Discussing what colour palette will work best with your skin tone can be discussed when you make your appointment.

The only acceptable reason for an artist to refuse an appointment based on skin type should be due to skin conditions or other medical reasons that could hinder, or be aggravated by, the tattoo process.

How do I take care of my tattoo?

For the first evening, keep your tattoo wrapped in cling film. When moisture builds up under the film, unwrap and wash (natural soap or just warm water) and then re-wrap with fresh cling film. Always make sure to wash your hands before cleaning and redressing. In the morning, immediately rinse your tattoo clean. Showers are fine but avoid submerging your tattoo, as prolonged wetness can be detrimental.

You may stop with cling film and leave your tattoo open from this point, applying cream whenever the tattoo becomes overly dry (Palmer’s Cocoa Butter is the recommendation). The cream should be from a new container and applied only after washing hands. Try not to use too much cream; if the tattoo looks wet, rinse away the excess. 2-3 times a day is normal. Make sure your tattoo only comes into contact with clean, light clothes; avoid any heavy, abrasive fabrics. When your tattoo starts to peel, refrain from scratching or interfering, and let the flakes fall off in their own time.

Your tattoo can take between 4 - 12 days to fully heal. Until this time, keep it away from direct sunlight, and avoid swimming and gym activity. Also avoid any contact with pets or surfaces which may harbour bacteria that can lead to infection.

A lot of people heal best with adhesive dressings such as Dermalize, but these are only effective from the second day onwards. When moisture builds up, remove the dressing and reapply. Cream is not necessary for this procedure, but if you experience irritation from the adhesive, please revert back to the original healing method. Avoid removing the dressing during days 3-5 as this may remove layers of skin that are not ready to fall off. Once the final dressing is removed after day 5, you may moisturise your tattoo with your choice of moisturiser.

What payment methods do you accept?

I can no longer accept payments by Paypal.

Clients with UK bank accounts may pay with online bank transfer, or cash.

Clients from outside the UK are asked to pay in cash (GBP)

Card payments are not currently accepted.

Do you do guest spots, conventions or work abroad?

I’m sorry to say that for the foreseeable future, I will be tattooing only from the studio.
